This week the annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards took place in Beverly Hills and a proud moment came not only for the recipient of an award but for the presenter of one, too, as Dr. Dre was able to present an award to his protégé Kendrick Lamar.

Kendrick won the Vanguard Award for the most impact of new and developing musical genres, and joined his mentor on stage after Dre gave a glowing speech about Kendricks accomplishments thus far and the similarities between the two of them.

“Kendrick Lamar is a class act,” said Dre. “I’m proud to know him. I’m proud to work with him and he is an important part of the new generation of hip-hop, and is definitely continuing the legacy of Compton. Believe.”
