Danny Brown – ‘Detroit State of Mind’ | Documentary

In a snowy February in Detroit, Pitchfork followed Danny Brown with a handheld camera and produced this documentary, Detroit State of Mind. Over the course of 20 minutes, we get a clearer look into the life of one of hip-hop’s most intriguing characters (not simply appearance-wise), as the footage takes us to Danny’s home with his family, both on and backstage of his performance at Dilla Day and into the booth where he records some appetising new material.

With another crude ode to molly and an ambient, ethereal cut showcased towards the end of the film, it’s safe to say Danny is looking to top last year’s acclaimed release, XXX. Essential viewing for any Danny Brown aficionado below.
