D’Angelo’s long awaited third album finally on the way?

Finally some news on D’Angelo‘s long awaited, long rumoured, then confirmed [followed by another wait of nothing] follow-up album to his Grammy Award winning, platinum selling sophomore LP Voodoo, released in 2000.

The Richmond, Virginia hailing modern soul icon’s new album is currently being recorded, if The Roots‘ drummer ?uestlove‘s recent tweets from a New York studio session are anything to go by.

“most people use midnight as a time to sleep. others are working on their 11 year followup. this of course being hour number one.” ?uestlove twittered on July 13, reportedly from a session with bassist and Voodoo collaborator Pino Palladino and producer/engineer Russell Elevado.

?uestl later added, “just made a classic at 4:28am. swear to god” and “Man. I’m Changed. Almost 3am. Music can Heal You. #sqrntweets”

According to Billboard, “[D’angelo’s new] album, which was at one point provisionally titled “James River,” is being eyed for release before the end of the year through J Records, according to a source, but could move to early 2012 depending on when it is finally turned in.”
