Common recalls making Be; “a Hip Hop album that hit you right there in your heart” [Video]

For the latest in their series exploring classic Hip Hop albums with the artists behind them, Reebok Classics presents Chi-town lyrical legend Common reflecting on the making of his sixth studio album Be, released in 2005 and largely produced by Kanye West .

“I remember one day, he had went out and partied somewhere and he was like, ‘Just give me 30 minutes to sleep’ – ’cause he had partied all night,” Commons recalls of their studio session. 30 minutes later, Ye woke up and quickly crafted the beat for gritty hometown-repping album highlight ‘The Corner.’

“It was so dirty and raw,” he smiles. “That’s how I wanted to introduce what I was about and what this album was gon’ be about. This was gonna be a Hip Hop album that hit you right there in your chest, in your heart.”
