Coldplay pay tribute to Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch with cover of “Fight For Your Right” [Video]

Following the news that Beastie Boys member Adam “MCA” Yauch had passed away yesterday following a three year battle with cancer, it hasn’t taken long for messages and tributes to pour in from not only the hip-hop industry, but from the music world as a whole.

Coldplay were among those showing their respect to Yauch. During their show at the Hollywood Bowl yesterday (May 4th), the band played a piano cover of the Beastie Boys’ classic 1987 anthem, “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)”. Chris Martin, lead singer of the band, added an extra lyric to the end of the song, “We’re sending all our love to the Beastie Boys”.

The rapper had been diagnosed with cancer of the preaortic gland and lymph node in July 2009 and had been fighting the disease ever since. He is survived by his wife, Dechen, and daughter, Tenzin Losel Yauch.
