Christina Milian talks Young Money signing, debuts new single “Mr. Valentine” | New Music

The rumour mill has been rife recently with news of R&B singer Christina Milian being signed by Lil Wayne to Young Money, and now that all rumours have been confirmed, the YMCMB signee unveils some new material.

According to Milian herself, at a pre-Grammy party Lil Wayne unexpectedly announced the news while on stage. Speaking to Carson Daly on AMP radio, she explained how it all went down.

“This weekend we had a big YMCMB party, and Drake was performing and we were all up on the stage and Wayne got up there and he announced it himself. I was kind of surprised and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is awesome!'”

Milian will be joining the likes of Nicki Minaj, Drake and Tyga on the label, and although excited to get them to feature on the album, she also explains that much of the album was already done before the deal was even signed.

“I’ve already halfway gotten there and when my mom and I went to Wayne and we played him some of the music, off the second song, he was like, ‘I love it. Let’s do this deal.'” But don’t let that fool you into thinking this was a spur of the moment decision – Lil Wayne had already done his research on the triple threat, herself.

“When they did a little background check, they saw even the songwriting, all that kind of stuff adds on top of, alright, she’s an actress, she’s a pretty face, she can actually sing, but not to mention she’s a songwriter. I thought that was cool that they even saw that.”

Hitting the ground running Christina Milian is breaking through with the very timely named “Mr. Valentine.” Getting her Rihanna on, Milian takes to a more Caribbean sound with this flirty number. I’m interested to see what other kinds of new material she’ll be coming out with.
