Brandy gets ready to record new album; signs to RCA Records | Music News

Having left Epic Records following her fifth album Human (2008) – her last and reportedly lowest-selling release to date – Mississipi born, Cali raised Grammy [and everything else] Award winning R&B singer, songwriter, actress and global star Brandy is working on bringing us all something new under a new deal she has signed with RCA Records, joining the likes of Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Kings of Leon and R. Kelly on their roster.

The deal is a joint venture between RCA and producer Breyon Prescott’s Chameleon Records, reports LA Times music blog Pop & Hiss, with RCA’s chief executive stating: “Throughout her career, Brandy has consistently won the vote as everyone’s favorite female vocalist… I am sure that in her next chapter at RCA and in partnership with Breyon Prescott, we will record her most exciting music to date.”

There is no news yet on the sound or theme of Brandy’s forthcoming album – marked for release at some point in 2012 – but several videos and officially unreleased tracks kicking around online in recent years show the singer experimenting with rapping as well as her trademark R&B sound, which might indicate the direction.

“This is truly a blessing,” Brandy said in a statement. “Breyon Prescott, Peter Edge and Tom Corson [RCA Music Group’s president and chief operating officer] believe in me and have introduced me to a home that also believes and knows exactly what to do with the type of music I’m doing. Breyon and the team at RCA/Chameleon are creative and forward-thinking and I am thrilled to be working with them.” —LA Times
