Björk to premiere Biophilia music & multimedia live show at @MIFestival, June/July | UK Events

Eccentric Icelandic singer, songwriter and composer and occasional actress Bjork has just announced a string of UK performance dates as part of the Manchester International Festival to be held later this Summer, during which she will exclusive preview new material from her forthcoming Biophilia album.

Originally launched in 2007, the Manchester International Festival is the world’s first festival of original, new work and special events and takes place biennially, in Manchester, UK, “presenting new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture.”

In a special collaboration with MIF, the Biophilia show will travel to major cities around the world following the Manchester premiere. MIF will be working with young people in Manchester to explore the ideas behind Björk’s Biophilia.

Björk’s Biophilia project is described as “a multi-media project encompassing music, apps, internet, installations and live shows,” in addition to it being an album; “Biophilia celebrates how sound works in nature, exploring the infinite expanse of the universe, from planetary systems to atomic structure.”

Her three-week residency at Manchester’s Campfield Market Hall will see Bjork performing six intimate shows [her first UK dates in over three years] with “a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ; a 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earth’s gravitational pull to create musical patterns — creating a unique bridge between the ancient and the modern; a bespoke gamelan-celeste hybrid; and a one-off extraordinary pin barrel harp”.
