Big K.R.I.T. explains being a singer before becoming a rapper [Video]

Ever wondered what Big K.R.I.T. did before he chose to rap?

The Mississippi-born 25-year-old was involved in music, but in a different way — Big K.R.I.T. was a singer. His vocals can be heard on all of his released material, including his debut album Live From The Underground. Never afraid to sing a tune, K.R.I.T. explains the reason that he started singing was because he couldn’t get anyone to sing on his hooks.

“The reason I started singing is because, Lord knows, I couldn’t get anybody to sing on my hooks,” K.R.I.T told CBS Local. “Obviously, people wasn’t too horrified with my voice.”

K.R.I.T. also explains his singing background, revealing that he was once a member of his church choir.

“I never was like, ‘I want to be an R&B singer,’” he said. “But everybody sung in church. And whether you can sing or not, you might have had that solo at Christmas. My gradmother made sure we sung in the choir. All of that helped now in my music.”
