BBC Radio 1 x 1Xtra say bye to Tim Westwood, new Sat night schedule + Clara Amfo added to line-up

Tim Westwood cut from BBC Radio 1
From September 21st BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra will be kicking off a fresh new line-up for Saturday nights – with new shows for MistaJam, Charlie Sloth and DJ Target during the weekly 12-hour simulcast. This new line up unfortunately means veteran DJ and Hip Hop personality Tim Westwood will no longer be on broadcast on either Radio 1 or Radio 1xtra.

Following the cutting down of his shows earlier this year the UK hip-hop staple, who joined Radio 1 in 1994 to present the station’s first rap show, unfortunately will not be bringing his unique presenting style to our homes via the BBC anymore.

Speaking about Westwood, Controller of BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra, Ben Cooper wished the ‘Big Dawg’ the best of luck stating, “I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1 – his passion for hip-hop is legendary – I wish him all the very best.”

The new Saturday night line-up will start with MistaJam at 7pm, followed by Charlie Sloth at 9pm and DJ Target at 11pm. The Radio 1Xtra simulcast will then continue as usual with shows from Diplo and Friends; Friction and Seani B until 7am.

But one of the most exciting pieces of news on the Radio 1xtra front (for me anyway) is the signing of presenter and DJ Clara Amfo who will become the host of the Weekend Breakfast Show (weekends, 7-10am) on he network.

The former Kiss FM UK presenter expressed her sheer joy in a statement,“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Radio 1Xtra. I have been a fan of the station since its inception. I respect and admire all of its DJs and presenters and I can’t wait to be a part of the BBC family.”

Salute to Clara! Onwards and upwards.
