Azealia Banks unimpressed with Iggy Azalea’s inclusion in XXL Freshman Class Of 2012

With Iggy Azealia breaking new ground yesterday as the first female emcee to be featured on XXL‘s coveted (or once coveted, depending who you talk to) Freshmen list, I guess it was always destined to spur some debate and disagreemet. And it’s none other than outspoken Harlem emcee Azealia Banks who’s first to make her point of view known.

Taking shots at the Australian-born rapper, known for her “My World” hit and her romantic connection with A$AP Rocky, Banks (@AZEALIABANKS) tweeted:

“Iggy Azalea on the XXL freshman list is all wrong. How can you endorse a white woman who called herself a “runaway slave master ” ? Whatever.”

She was referring to the line on Iggy‘s song “D.R.U.G.S.”, in which she raps: “Tire marks, tire marks, finish line with the fire marks/When it really starts I’m a runaway slave-master.”

It’s worth noting, however, that the track is a cover of Kendrick Lamar‘s “Look Out For Detox”, and her lyrics reflect those of the TDE rapper (“Tire marks, tire marks, finish line with the tire marks/When the relay starts I’m a runaway slave”).

Iggy (@IGGYAZALEA) wasn’t scared to put her claws to use either, replying (indirectly) with:
“Don’t bother including my @ name in any of ur salty thoughts either cause… I’m #blockinthatass today!!!!”

What are your thoughts on the issue? Was Azealia Banks right to call out fer female counterpart? Or is it just a show of jealousy of Iggy Azalea‘s achievement? Let us know in the comments section below.
