Aretha Franklin Cancels Concerts Due To Broken Ribs

Soul legend Aretha Franklin has had to cancel two concerts in Brooklyn, New York after falling in her bath and breaking her ribs last Sunday. The shows, which were free for attendees, would’ve been her first ever shows in the New York borough.

Organiser Marty Markowitz said: “All of Brooklyn wishes Aretha Franklin a speedy recovery.

“Certainly thousands of music lovers were eagerly awaiting these historic shows, her first ever in Brooklyn, in the heart of our African-American community in Central Brooklyn and in world-famous Coney Island.

“Believe me, for the more than 30 years that I have been presenting free concerts here, Ms. Franklin has been at the top of my wish list, and that dream was about to come true.”

He added: “We hope to reschedule with her when she’s feeling better – and we Brooklynites will be thrilled to welcome the Queen of Soul to the County of Kings.”

In a statement, Franklin said: “[I am] very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot-long hot dog at Coney Island.”
