Amel Larrieux – “Afraid” I New Music

Returning this summer with her first album in six years, titled Ice Cream Every Day, soulful, sweetly toned Groove Theory founder Amel Larrieux leads the way with her new single “Afraid.”

Following her 2007 LP of jazz standards [Lovely Standards], Ice Cream Every Day was first slated for release in 2009 but encountered difficulties and setbacks as Larrieux aimed to perfect the lengthy material written for it. From a first listen of “Afraid,” though, it definitely seems worth the wait.

Coupling a funky bass-line with Larrieux’s smooth, sultry vocals about the excitement and trepidation upon entering a relationship, she swoons with vocal echoes as the groove ebbs throughout the track, creating an easy-listening tune perfect for those long days spent lazing in the sunshine. Take a listen and see what you think below.

Ice Cream Every Day is out on August 27th.
