A$AP Rocky – “I Really Mean It” x “Yonkers” (Freestyle) | New Music

He may claim the Big Apple as his hometown, but clearly London has served as an inspiration for A$AP Rocky. Not only killing his debut performance in the city at Cargo last Tuesday night (March 20th), plus covering The Throne‘s “N****s In Paris” and Lil’ Keke‘s “Chunk Up Da Deuces” during his interview with 1Xtra’s DJ Semtex, but Dat PMF hopped on Dipset‘s “I Really Mean It” and fellow online icon Tyler, The Creator‘s “Yonkers” while stopping by on Kiss FM.

Rocky’s affection for Cam’ron, Juelz Santana and Jim Jones isn’t exactly insider knowledge, and although criticised for mimicking a sound more prevalent in Houston, the A$AP boss sounds more than at home on his fellow Harlem-natives’ beat. You could say he even draws comparison to Killa Cam with his extravagant boasts and off-kilter flow.

Later freestyling on Wolf Haley’s breakout hit was an interesting choice, considering both figures’ towering appeal, and will no doubt spark a lot of online debates. Who’s version do you prefer: Tyler’s original or Rocky’s freestyle? Let us know below in the c-section.
