2 Chainz’s ‘Based On A T.R.U. Story’ debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 | Music News

Rap’s most popular featured artist has now become of the game’s top solo artists – officially. Released on August 14th, 2 Chainz‘s debut album, Based On A T.R.U. Story has entered the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1.

According to HITS Daily Double, the album moved a modest 145,809 units (a shade over the 130k-140k sales it was projected) in its first week, but it was enough to knock the Now That’s What I Call Music 43 compilation off the top spot. Based On A T.R.U. Story also sits above Rick RossGod Forgives, I Don’t, which peaked at No. 1 on the chart earlier this month, but now holds the third position.

Driven by the No. 1 single, “No Lie” featuring Drake, and boasting internet favourites like “Riot” and the Kanye West-assisted “Birthday Song”, the album’s achievement is no surprise. Congratulations are in order for 2 Chainz.

Based On A T.R.U. Story is out now on iTunes.
