2 Chainz explains the inspiration behind ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’ album cover | Music News

Sitting down for a chat with Billboard, 2 Chainz — the man also known as Tity Boi — broke down the inspiration behind the cover art for his upcoming album, Based on a T.R.U. Story.

The visually sparse album cover is strikingly simple, depicting a very literal translation of the rapper’s moniker: two gilded necklaces set against a black backdrop.

The album portrait was shot by Fabien Montique for DONDA, Kanye West‘s design house named after his late mother.

The G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam signee revealed to Billboard that members of the Louis Vuitton Don’s DONDA team were the very first people who sprung to mind when the time came to visualise the album cover.

“Kanye and I share a similar vision and think along the same lines creatively,” he explained. “So, when it came time to develop the imagery for my project, I trusted him and his team at DONDA to get the job done and communicate my sentiments.

“They were the first people I thought of. Their team is unprecedented. Expect next level imagery, sonics and stage performance. This is curated art. The Louvre of rap.”

Based on a T.R.U. Story is due Aug. 14.
