After dropping a version of “Give It 2 U” featuring rappers Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz earlier this year, it seems Robin Thicke has decided to stick with Kendrick alone for the official single, which he released this weekend.
Following on from the huge success of his chart-topping track, “Blurred Lines”, featuring T.I. and Pharrell, the suave R&B singer switches things up a little with a more electronic kind of sound for “Give It To You”, laying his sultry vocals over a beat produced -unsurprisingly – by will.i.am. Given that Compton hailing Kendrick isn’t normally heard rapping over such electro-pop mash ups, it’s interesting to hear him slot into this song quite effortlessly and the end result is actually pretty catchy. No doubt this will receive just as good a reception as “Blurred Lines”, as it makes a change from the serious singing style that Robin has been previously known for.
“Give It To You” is set to appear on Robin’s upcoming Blurred Lines album, which drops on 30 July. Listen below.
