The ever impressive PS22 Chorus, a celebrated youth musical movement directed by Gregg Breinberg and comprised of an ever-changing group of 5th graders from a Public School in Staten Island who have already garnered much attention with their covers of Adele and Lady Gaga with appearances on Oprah, Nightline, Good Morning America, The Today Show, MTV, Sesame Street and at the 2011 Academy Awards bring us their latest cover.
To celebrate the birthday of one of the most iconic American stars of all time, Marilyn Monroe, the kids deliver this cover of Nicki Minaj‘s appropriately titled “Marilyn Monroe” from her sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Watch the performance below.
“This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the passing of one of the greatest American icons of all time, the stunningly beautiful and remarkably talented Marilyn Monroe. In her honor, the chorus decided to cover her tribute song by another brilliant talent, Nicki Minaj — the appropriately titled “Marilyn Monroe”. To make this dedication extra special, we invited last year’s unforgettable star soloist Denise (who happened to be paying us a visit that afternoon) to help us out on the hook. The chorus gives a haunting performance and Denise shows us that she’s only improved with time. We hope this rendition has Marilyn looking down and smiling…. Happy birthday Marilyn Monroe.” – PS22 Chorus
