Charli XCX and Brooke Candy have released the video for their single “Cloud Aura” and all I can say is that it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.
The British synthpop artist recently described all the tracks on her Super Ultra mixtape as “sad songs in some way”, and whilst Ryan Andrews’ tear-filled visual shows that Charli enjoys an element of the tragic romance and bubblegum pop, it also makes it clear that her interests are eclectic. She’s just as enthralled by the weird and wonderful world of cinema, horror and sci-fi included, as she is in making emotive music. Shot in black-and-white with a sort of security camera effect, this particular clip is a brilliantly arranged jumble-sale of VCRs (Casablanca, Bonnie and Clyde, Carrie, Terminator) and old Pokemon cards, given that added twist by the appearance of Brooke Candy, representing a seedy, edgy counter-culture.
