Chicago rapper Calez took a lot of people by (pleasant) surprise in 2011 when he dropped “Middle Finger”, an unashamed attack on blogs that don’t show talented artists love and instead focus on building connections with weak but popular acts.
As the first member of his 2008ighties crew to gain notoriety he continued to keep himself the topic of conversation, releasing his brilliant Kids With Raps mixtape last year and featuring on songs from artists including brandUn deShay, Alex Wiley and more.
With the rest of the 2008ighties crew releasing a number of projects since, and fellow member Julian Malone signing with Stones Throw it’s clear the team means business, and now Calez has released the Too Broke Tape, his long awaited followup. The tape has just two features, coming from his crewmates UG and Julian Malone, and sees Calez rap over production from 2008ighties producer Sani, Clams Casino, Herk Twist and more.
