Angel Haze, despite still displaying some of the outward signs of youth, draws on a deep reserve of anger and paranoia in her music (remember “Wicked Moon“?) which seem to suggest she’s had to grow up too fast.
In “Cleaning Out My Closet” she takes on Eminem‘s devastating, haunting instrumental and shares a terrible personal experience- the story of the sexual abuse she suffered from the age of seven. A graphic account, complete with an explicit vocal impersonating her abuser and descriptions of her physical suffering, this track isn’t for the faint-hearted. However, whether you can listen to it or not is besides the point. Haze must be applauded for her bravery in releasing this track and exposing the crimes of her abuser, making it easier for others to come out with their own stories.
