Probably the most talked about rapper in recent months, Atlanta-based Trinidad James has signed on the dotted line with Def Jam Records for a reported $2 million after notching up over 2.5 million views on his internet hit “All Gold Everything” in roughly 3 months.
Speaking exclusively to Billboard, label president Joie Manda says, “We’re excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family. Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop’s rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists.
“Trinidad James represents the cutting-edge of what’s happening in the culture today. We are thrilled to have him at the label, and look forward to growing his already massive buzz.”
And it surprisingly seems that Def Jam weren’t the only ones after James, as his NYC show on Dec. 4th also saw execs from Atlantic Records as well as others in attendance to check out who everyone’s been talking about.
If you want to catch up then James’ mixtape, Don’t Be S.A.F.E. which includes “All Gold Everything” is available on iTunes.
