As the end of the year is looming, we already have things to be excited for next year as the nominees for the Brits Critics’ Choice Award 2013 have now been announced with the hotly tipped acts AlunaGeorge, Tom Odell and Laura Mvula making up the shortlist.
The three acts were hand picked by music industry insiders, being tipped as the artists to look out for next year as past winners have demonstrated. The past five years’ winners have all been female, and included Emeli Sandé, Adele and Florence + the Machine who have all proven to be worthy winners as they’ve gone on to dominate the charts after scooping up their award.
Feeling thankful just to be nominated in such a category, classically trained singer Mvula says, “It’s unbelievable and I’m in total shock. I don’t think I’ve experienced this kind of shock before. It’s such a huge honour to be included in this prestigious shortlist, I don’t think that I can put it in to words. Thank you.”
She is joined on the list by 22 year old singer/songwriter Odell, who recently made his TV debut on the much respected late night music show Later… With Jools Holland. AlunaGeorge is the final act in the category, made up of singer Aluna Francis and and producer George Reid whose mash up of soul, indie and electro combined has already given them quite a buzz.
The winner of the Brits Critics’ Choice Award will be announced December 20th.
