Jay-Z sits down with CNN to discuss his views on why it’s important to support the legal right to same-sex marriage in America, also discussing the’test’ of today’s economic climate – and the negative attitudes many seem to have towards the wealthy entrepreneurs and businessmen who manage to thrive or succeed in them – watch below.

“I’ve always thought it as something that’s still holding the country back,” the iconic Hip Hop entrepreneur opens on his position on gay marriage. “What people do in their own homes is their business; you choose to love whoever you love, that’s their business. It’s not different than discriminating against Blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.”

On Obama’s recent declaration of support on the issue, he adds, “I think it’s the right thing to do whether it cost him votes or not, it’s not about votes, it’s about people. Whether it cost him votes or not I think it’s the right thing for him to do, as a human being.”

Speaking next on the American economy, he continues, “For a long time we had it pretty good in American and we were floating on this high… Well, we were hiding some of the troubles that we were going through.

“So I see this as a test of our character. Test the resolve of Americans. Just to remind us that we have that fight; we haven’t had such a fight since the Great Depression.”

On the attitude to wealth and successful businessmen in tough climates, he continues, “America is built on free enterprise so we don’t wanna knock anyone for being successful in America, but things that were happening were unjust – and we should talk about that. Not just successful businessmen – because people tend to get that message mixed up; ‘you’re successful = you’re bad’…”
