Reuters is reporting that Hollywood actor George Clooney has been arrested for civil disobedience during a demonstration outside the Sudanese embassy in Washington DC while protesting the humanitarian crisis currently taking place between Sudan and South Sudan. His father Nick has also been detained at the the protest.

“We need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world,” Clooney told reporters, according to Reuters. “The second thing we are here to ask is for the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That’s all we ask.”

Clooney recently took a trip to Sudan and is actively involved in humanitarian work, including finding a resolution for the conflict in western Sudan, raising funds to aid victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the 2004 Tsunami in Indonesia, and for the victims of the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers in NY. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

He recently sat down with MSNBC to discuss his experience in Sudan, including his close call with a rocket and his aim to bring awareness to war crimes taking place in the region under Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashi. Watch a clip of the interview below.
