Sony Music Entertainment is expected to name Salaam Remi as its new executive vice-president of A&R (artists and repertoire).
Industry experts Billboard.biz report that the Grammy-nominated producer and songwriter will be used across all Sony labels, in a move that resembles a number of similar appointments at other major labels.
We recently brought you the news that award-winning songwriter and producer Terius Nash, a.k.a. The Dream, had been appointed Executive Vice-President of A&R at Def Jam. Prior to that, Chicago-producer NO I.D and Chris “Tricky” Stewart had both found employment in similar capacities, and it seems that Remi is the latest big name producer to benefit from such an arrangement.
Nor should we be surprised. Known for his strong track record producing classics like The Fugees‘ ’96 hit “Fu-Gee-La,” and extensive work with long-term collaborator Nas, Amy Winehouse and Jazmine Sullivan among many, Remi has had yet another highly successful year in 2012, crafting songs for Nas‘ Life is Good album, as well as for Miguel and Alicia Keys‘ latest efforts.
In his new position, Salaam Remi will no doubt continue to help new and emerging talents on their way to major success.
