Tuesday Top 5: Remembering Bob Marley

29 years ago today (11th May 1981) Robert Nesta Marley died aged 36. Still as musically influential as ever, Bob Marley’s legacy still resonates for many. Here are 5 of my favourite records; while I avoid Marley’s most popular cuts (One Love, Sun Is Shining or No Woman, No Cry), these musical gems all convey Marley’s special ability to comment on the political and social climate in a way that is still relevant today.

One Drop

“Give us the teachings of His Majesty, we no want no devil philosophy…”

Africa Unite

“How good and how pleasant it would be before God and man to see the unification of all Africans”

Forever Loving Jah

“Only a fool lean(s) upon his own misunderstanding…”

So Much Trouble In The World

“You see men sailing on their ego trip, blast away from their spaceship, million miles away from reality…”

Stir It Up – The Wailers

“I’ll blaze ya fire, then I’ll satisfy your heart’s desire.”
