“RnB and soul music is missing passion, like a lot of genres.
Because with passion comes creativity, and you don’t see too much of it [these days]…” says Jesse Boykins III – the singer and songwriter behind The Beauty Created.

His impeccably-produced debut album, independently released in late 2008, could quite possibly be classed as the sexiest soul album unleashed in recent years.

Putting himself forward to renew the ‘quality and passion’ in soul music, the self-confessed romantic is on a quest to bring soulful R&B music back to where it needs to be.

‘Though he doesn’t think he sounds like anyone else, he has been described by listeners as “a mixture of Raheem Devaughn and John Legend,” also evoking comparisons to Dwele and Vikter Duplaix.
He adds, “I just take it all as a compliment; all those artist are well respected in the music industry.

The soon-to-be-24 year old embraces the charming side of his zodiac sign – Pisces – enthusing, “I feel like Love is the only thing really that helps you forget about all the negative things going on in life… brings smiles… so why not help spread it.

Quite fitting, then, that “Amorous” is one of the standout songs on his album; a collection of seductive tracks with tender lyrics ranging from the loving and aspiring to the playful and lustful.
A delicious record from start to end, The Beauty Created is a perfect after-hours album.

Something of a travelling man, Jesse was born in Chicago then lived in Jamaica from the age of five, spending his teenage years in Miami.
It was whilst residing in New York that he crossed paths with pioneering ‘neo’ soul star Bilal and blagged some top-level vocal coaching.
Could a budding artist ask for a better introduction?

“Bilal had attended the New School University and he was on the scene at different jazz clubs when I first got to NYC. I randomly met him at this spot and introduced myself ,” he reveals. “We had mutual friends and one of them suggested that I ask B to give me lessons. It took him meeting me three times to remember who I was. So when he finally remembered I just asked him [for vocal coaching] and he was down. Bilal is a great vocal coach – he knows a lot about the voice and how to express energy using it.

To capture a sense of Jesse’s energy, take a look at the video for “Pantyhose” – his second single from the album.
Watch it right here on SoulCulture.co.uk:

He explains, “‘Pantyhose’ was a concept me and a good friend of mine JayWoo [director of the video and designer of the album cover] came up with while we were doing our laundry over the summer.

“I had this image of being with a woman who was upset with me because I sat around and recorded all day. That’s how it originated – then we built on it, adding that she was also mad I sold pantyhose as my side-hustle.
So throughout the whole video I’m just trying to make her smile and get over the fact that I sell pantyhose…”

Keep your eyes on this one.
Could this superb and sultry album be a modern classic?

I think he’s onto something.
