Following on from recent news about The Wolverine, the X-Men’s relationship with the silver screen continues as Bryan Singer has signed on to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class.

Singer, producer and co-writer of X-Men First Class, also directed X-Men and X2: X-Men United, before leaving the third instalment to direct Superman Returns. Matthew Vaughn, who directed the 2011 film, was supposed to return as director on X-Men: Days of Future Past but dropped out recently for unknown reasons. Despite this Vaughn still intends to be involved in the film’s production, as Deadline reports that he is close to a deal to produce the film alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner, who is also pictured above.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are expected to return as Dr. Charles Xavier and Magneto, alongside Álex González, January Jones, Rose Byrne and Jennifer Lawrence from the first film.

X-Men: Days of Future Past currently has a release date of July 18th, 2014.
