9th Wonder & Phonte mend rift; no Little Brother reunion planned

January 2nd, 2011 | by M. Gosho Oakes

Little Brother fans will be pleased to note, in the early hours of this morning Phonte announced that he and producer 9th Wonder have finally put aside their personal differences.

Having released two albums together along with Big Pooh as part of North Carolina Hip Hop trio Little Brother, 9th Wonder left the group officially in 2007. A public Twitter spat between Phonte and Wonder in March 2010 [over unreleased track "Star"] preceded the remaining duo’s fourth and final album, Leftback, and formal split the following month.

“Took 4 years, 2 plates of food and 6 hrs. of convo, but we squashed it. #brotherhood,” Phonte tweeted today – along with the above photo of the pair together.

“I appreciate the love for me and @9thwondermusic, but us mending our rift had nothing to do with music and everything to do with manhood,” he clarified.

“We may collaborate in time, but this is not the start of a LB reunion as neither of us have interest in doing so. Sorry to disappoint. Our friendship began as Phonte Coleman and Patrick Douthit long before a ‘LB’ or ’9th Wonder’ existed. This was about rebuilding that bond.

“So in closing, happy new year to all our supporters past and present. Feels great to start the year on a positive note. One love.”
