If you’re waiting Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V you’ll unfortunately have to wait a little longer than expected after the company announced a release date of September 17, 2013. After announcing a Spring 2013 release a few months ago development of the game has appeared to push Rockstar to move the release a few months later than expected, receiving outrage from a small amount of fans. Since 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV Rockstar’s main games such as Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3 have been released for consoles annually between the months of April and July. In a statement on their website the pioneers of the sandbox genre further explained the motivation behind the decision:
Dear all, Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013. We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require. To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience. Yours, The GTA Team
As much as it can be disappointing to wait a little longer for something that’s highly-anticipating it’s great to see that most people reacted with understanding and appreciation that Rockstar made the move rather than releasing a product they felt was incomplete. The company has a long history of ground-breaking games, and thankfully their priorities are as steadfast as ever.
