MTV has cancelled the US remake of hit UK comedy The Inbetweeners, lasting just one season. The series debut attracted over one million viewers earlier this summer but closed to 600,000 by its last episode. The news comes a little over a year after MTV’s American version of Skins faced the same fate amidst growing controversy.

In a statement an MTV spokesperson said: “While we won’t be moving forward with another season of The Inbetweeners, we enjoyed working with the show’s creators and such a talented, funny cast.”

Bubba Lewis, Zack Pearlman, Joey Pollari and Mark L. Young played Simon, Jay, Will and Neil, four high schoolers stuck “in between” social groups and unsuccessful in their attempts at gaining popularity and female attention, in case you’ve somehow missed out on the UK series (tsk tsk).

Though it may have taken a while for the US audience’s cold reception to it to become clear, fans of the UK Series made their disdain known from early on, as a number of YouTube videos ripping into the remake quickly gained popularity.
