While many were excited upon hearing that  Lenny Kravitz will play Marvin Gaye in an upcoming biopic, the oldest son of the soul legend is less than happy about it.

The film, directed by Julien Temple, will focus on Marvin’s struggles with drug addition in the early ’80s, a time where he also faced depressed and was trying to re-launch his career before he was shot dead by his father in 1984.

Speaking to TMZ, Marvin Gaye III said: “The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful … [They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don’t even know the whole story.”

Gaye III has been friends with Kravitz since back in their school days, and intends to speak to the musician about why he accepted the role. Alongside other family members, he will also be meeting with lawyers to attempt to stop production of the film, and hopes that Lenny isn’t knowingly going against he and his family’s wishes.
