The ever-popular Twilight films may be now over as far as the main series is concerned, but that hasn’t stopped the fifth and final film, Breaking Dawn — Part 2, from continuing the successes its predecessors found, having earned $341million (£215million) in cinemas worldwide in it’s opening weekend, with $141m taken at the US box office alone.

This makes the film, which is directed by Bill Condon, the eighth biggest movie debut in US cinema history, placing it above Breaking Dawn – Part 1 which earned $138.2million last year, yet behind New Moon, which took an incredible $161.3million in it’s opening weekend in the US.

Skyfall earned $41.5million, bringing it’s total gross to $161million, while Steven Spielberg‘s critically acclaimed Lincoln, which stars Daniel Day-Lewis as the titular character, took in $21 million and will likely impress UK audiences when it reaches our shores on January 25th, 2013.
