Just earlier this month, we reported that renowned film director Spike Lee is working on a Michael Jackson documentary, and already the film has been scheduled with its first screening. The documentary, entitled Bad 25, will premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, which commences on August 29th.

The visual piece, which was put together by Lee in partnership with Sony Music and Jackson’s estate, will focus on the making of the King of Pop’s 1987 classic LP, Bad, and its accompanying tour and music videos.

“With this ‘Bad’ project I was able to uncover just what made this such a huge, important coming of age in his career and unearth compelling stories surrounding the making of the album … the short films and the tour that may have never seen the light of day,” Lee said.

As a further treat to MJ fans, the film will also contain previously-unheard music and video footage. Lee detailed that he had “complete access” to the singer’s vaults, which contains the 60 total recorded demos for Bad, of which only 11 made the final cut.

While a release date for the documentary has yet to be announced, Bad itself will be re-released on September 18th as a deluxe package featuring three CDs, two collectible booklets and a concert DVD.
