Hip-hop legend and Aftermath head honcho Dr. Dre is set to produce a horror-thriller called Thaw, Variety reports.
Thaw will focus on “an ancient evil that emerges from the rapidly melting ice in the Yukon,” according to Variety.
The film is the brainchild of Daniel Schneider, one of Dre’s partners at Crucial Films, a company owned by New Line Cinemas with whom Dre has been in business since 2007.
Dre made his first big-screen appearance alongside fellow rap veteran Queen Latifah in 1996’s Set It Off. He also starred in 2001’s The Wash with Snoop Dogg and had a small role in Training Day, released that same year, with Denzel Washington. There have been no reports on whether Dre will appear in Thaw.
Dre is also a founder, along with Interscope CEO Jimmy Iovine, of the Beats By Dre headphone line, which recently ended its relationship with Monster Cables. His eagerly anticipated, almost mythical third solo album, Detox, has allegedly been in the works for many years. It has no release date.
