Luther series 3 interactive trailer unveiled (Starring Idris Elba) | TV News

A new trailer for Luther’s upcoming third season has released, using interactive elements to tease the tale that looms for our favourite DCI.

The trailer contains a number of additional photos and videos, and gives a brief look at the highly anticipated return of Alice Morgan, played by Ruth Wilson.

She tells Luther (Idris Elba): “I came to help the people you love”, and adds: “It seems to me your conscience has killed more people than I have.”

Also embedded in the trailer is a piece of locked content that seems to tie into Morgan’s return to the show.

The content will be unlocked for viewing on July 17, more than two weeks after the supposedly final series of the BBC One drama kicks off on July 2 at 9pm. Check out the trailer below.

Pirate Bay co-founder Gottfrid Svartholm Warg jailed for hacking | News

Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, co-founder of Swedish torrent site the pirate bay has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for hacking into a bank’s computers.

Warg was found guilty of the hacks as well as associated charges of fraud by a Swedish court. The Nordea banking group and services firm Logica were the targets of the attack, which resulted in the personal data of thousands of Swedes being stolen and subsequently released online.

Mathia Gustafsson, Warg’s accomplice in the hackings, was advised to seek psychiatric counselling and given a suspended sentence.

During the trial Warg and Gustafsson didn’t deny that their computers were used in the attacks, but alleged that other people controlled the computers remotely to break into the computer systems. Both refused to name who these other perpetrators were.

Going against their claims, forensic experts that testified in the trial said that data found on the computers involved in the attacks proved that the pair are the culprits. Lawyers have not yet said whether they intend to appeal against the rulings.

Warg is already serving a one-year jail sentence after being convicted of Internet piracy in 2009 as part of the team behind The Pirate Bay. This latest conviction isn’t the last of Warg’s current legal issues. Earlier this month a Swedish court confirmed that he may be extradited to Denmark to be questioned over another hacking incident.

Facebook adds hashtag functionality | Tech News

Following the likes of Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and pretty much every other social networking service, Facebook has implemented hashtag functionality, allowing users to follow conversations and trending topics more easily than ever before.

As you would expect, clicking on a hashtag takes you to other posts that have used the same hashtag, and users can now lookup hashtags in the search bar, connecting the hashtags with posts from other sites that have used them.

The feature has been implemented in just 20% of users so far, with Facebook expecting it to be extended to all users over coming weeks.

Advertising opportunities were a big drive in Facebook finally including the feature. Speaking on the power of hashtagged conversations , Justin Ososky, Director of platform parnterships and operations at Facebook said, “Between 88 and 100 million Americans log in to Facebook every night during prime time TV hours, which represents a significant opportunity for broadcasters, advertisers and our other partners.” He also noted that a recent episode of Game of Thrones, and I’m sure fans can guess which one, generated over 1.5 million mentions on Facebook.

Superman and General Zod face-off in new Man of Steel trailer | Geek Alert

Much like they did last year with The Dark Knight Rises, Nokia has premiered a brand new trailer for DC Comics’ superhero epic Man of Steel.

With the film’s impending release just a week and a few days away, the exclusive trailer does a great job of highlighting a number of the films key scenes, from Clark (Henry Cavill) being bullied as a child, to taking on the fearsome General Zod (Michael Shannon) as Superman. While most of the footage is taken from previous trailers, there are enough previously unseen scenes to demand a viewing.

Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and produced by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy), the film also stars Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue and Ayelet Zurer.  Man of Steel hits cinemas on June 14, 2013.

Check out the trailer below, and while you’re at it be sure to peep the prequel comic, essential reading for anyone planning to watch the film.

Snapshots: Transformers 4 redesigned Bumblebee and new Autobot Hound unveiled

Progress on the next instalment in the Transformers film series continues, with director Michael Bay releasing the first images of Bumblebee and newcomer autobot Hound from the film.

While we only get a look at the two autobots in their vehicle forms, the shots correspond with Bay’s claims that the movie will retain roots from the three films that preceded it but will go in a new direction.

As you may recall past protagonist Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) won’t be returning, with Mark Wahlberg taking the lead role. Despite that, as you can see, his pal Bumblebee is back. Bay’s website, where the images were released, described the car as a “highly modified, vintage 1967 Camaro SS”.

Describing the latest addition to the Autobots posse, Bay’s official site says Hound is “one of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles from Oshkosh Defense.” That’s a little brief, but thankfully the Transformers wiki provides some more knowledge on his Generation 1 incarnation:

“Hound wishes he were human. The dark, barren metalscapes of Cybertron no longer interest him. Now that Hound has been shipwrecked on Earth, he considers this planet his home. He sees humankind as beautiful and wishes he could interact with their ecosphere the same way they do, to feel what they feel and to see what they see.”

Though plot details are still shrouded in mystery, with the 2014 release not so far away and these new images, it looks like we’ll be getting details sooner than previously thought. Check out the images below.

Marie Dahlstrøm x Mary Sené – “Loveeeeeee Song” (Rihanna x Future cover) [Video]

Scandinavian songstress Marie Dahlstrøm links up with her pal Mary Sané to add a bit more soul to another joint off Rihanna’s recent album Unapologetic, this time tackling "Loveeeeeee Song", the Bajan singer's hit song with Future.

Produced by the duo, the reworking turns up the passion with its smooth chords and relaxed rhythm, plus the harmony between their sultry voices results in a tune that can make any situation intimate.

Having recently supported JP Cooper at the Tabernacle, Marie is currently at work on a number of projects for this year, while Mary is preparing for the release of her debut EP. If this is just a random jam like the caption says, I can only hope we hear more collaborations from the two vocalists soon. Check out the video below.

The first trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon has arrived.

The film sees Gordon-Levitt star as Jon Martello, a womanizer obsessed with porn based on the legend of Don Juan. He eventually becomes dissatisfied with his lifestyle and decides to change, becoming less selfish and learning more about life and love from lovey-dovey lady Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) and classmate at night school (Julianne Moore).

Tony Danza and Brie Larson play Don’s father and sister respectively, and the cast also includes Lindsey Broad, Rob Brown and Italia Ricci.

Goapele - "Undertow" | Music Video

Goapele has dropped a video for “Undertow” the enchanting single from her 2012 album Break of Dawn.

The beautifully shot visuals add a new layer in bringing the story within the song to life, which explores a tale of a poisonous relationship that is too magnetic to break free from.

Directed by John Mazyck, the video was shot on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, and sees the songstress walking on the beach before heading to a lounge performance.

The sparse beach background reminds me of the video for “Soweto”, one of Goapele’s classic collaborations with Bay Area hip-hop group Hieroglyphics. Check out the video below.

Microsoft unveils the Xbox One | Geek Alert

Microsoft has unveiled the successor to the Xbox 360 at the reveal event in their headquarters in Redmond, Washington yesterday.

Christened the Xbox One, the console goes beyond games, with Microsoft focusing strongly on interacting with other devices commonly found in the living room, such as TV’s, phones and more.

The system will be able to support live TV, and will include a slightly redesigned controller as well as brand new version of the Kinect camera that has been updated to detect motions as small as eye movement.

"What if a single device could provide all your entertainment, what if it could turn on your TV and talk to all the devices in your living room?," Microsoft's Don Mattrick said.

The Xbox One integrates voice control down to being able to switch on the console with it, and will be able to switch between gaming, music, movies, live TV and the Internet seamlessly, all the while running the different processes in the background.

The console comes with an 8-core CPU, 8GB of system memory and a 500GB hard drive. Microsoft have conceded in one area to Sony by providing a Blu-Ray drive in the console as well as USB 3.0, in addition to the expected HDMI in/out specs.

A number of games were shown (mostly through pre-rendered footage), with EA’s sports range up first. The event confirmed the return of the NBA Live series with NBA Live 14, the first game in the series to see the light of day since the 2010 edition. Forza 5, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Quantum Break, a new game from Alan Wake developers Remedy Entertainment also got a look-in. The Xbox One will have 15 exclusive games in the first 12 months following its release, including 8 brand new franchises.

Continuing Microsoft’s dreams of uniting games, TV and more through one box, a new Halo live-action series was announced, taking the form of a collaboration between series developers 343 Industries and legendary director Steven Spielberg.

While the Xbox One so far appears impressive, Wired have confirmed that the console will not come with backwards compatibility, including XBLA games, which means you won’t be able to bring over any games, not even digital from you Xbox 360. Aside from that Microsoft has also revealed that installing games is mandatory and will register to a specific, single Xbox Live account, requiring a small fee to be paid to play the game with a second Xbox Live account on that same console. The company has not yet spoken on what will happen with second-hand and borrowed games on the platform, but more news will be revealed long before the console is released later this year.

The event may have been lacking as far as in-game footage goes, but one can be sure that was due to E3 taking place on June 10th, where more on the console, and it’s games will be shown. In the meantime check out the reveal video below.

'Star Wars Rebels' animated series coming in 2014 | Geek Alert

With Disney’s recent acquisition of LucasFilm the Star Wars universe has been given a new lease of life, and now the first animated collaboration between the two has been revealed.

Named Star Wars Rebels, the animated series will bridge Episode III (Revenge of the Sith) and Episode IV (A New Hope) and will debut in fall of 2014. The programme will be shown on Disney XD, and explains the cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the widely loved animated series that preceded Rebels and ran from 2008 to March of this year

Dave Filoni, former supervising director on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will take on the role executive producer alongside Greg Weisman (creator of Gargoyles, the popular 90’s Disney cartoon) and Episode VII consultant Simon Kinberg. Kinsberg, who is also writing and producing one of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff movies, is writing the one-hour Star Wars Rebels premiere.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The action-packed series is set between the events of Episode III and IV – an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time when the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
