Mikky Ekko has to be one of the most exciting talents in the world of pop as the new year begins. After appearing on Rihanna's vulnerable Unapologetic single "Stay," the Louisiana-hailing vocal prodigy made an impressive entrance onto the scene in 2012, and with a debut album featuring collaborations with acclaimed producers Paul Epworth, Clams Casino, John Hill and David Sitek in the works, there's every chance he'll become a regular fixture on the radio in the next few months.

It's only right then, that he was invited onto Annie Mac's Radio 1 show today to deliver two stunning live lounge tracks for a very lucky British audience; which combined should help him win a few more fans. Read more

Listen to Skrillex's new 3-track EP: 'The Reason (Leaving)'

00.SkrillexLeavingEP2013Cover

Whilst many music fans think dubstep producer Skrillex makes EDM that's 80% aggression, 20% wobble and 0% melody, he's started 2013 with a little reminder of why he's still well respected by many of his music-making peers, dropping a little three-track EP that rejects brostep in favour of a multi-layered, more UK-oriented sound. Anyone else still got T.I.'s latest album on repeat? Tip came for the crown with Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head, and along the way he proved that he had energy to burn. Plenty of that energy was on display when the Kang dropped by Jimmy Fallon's late night show on Thursday (January 3rd) as guest performer, lighting the stage up with a live version of "Ball," his Weezy-assisted salutation to New Orleans bounce. Q-Tip, The Roots, Talib Kweli perform "Electric Relaxation" at Okayplayer Holiday Jam [Video]

tipbtkweli

A Tribe Called Quest's "Electric Relaxation" is one of those tracks I'll simply never tire of listening to, a track shot through with the spirit of hip hop as the mischievous rap gods intended it, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard this latest rendition of the track, a live offering from Q-Tip himself, music virtuosos The Roots and the one and only Talib Kweli. Mac Miller f/ Ab-Soul - "All The Time" (prod. by Chuck Inglish) | New Music

all-the-time-530x530

Mac Miller and Ab-Soul are two rappers with a big year (or years) ahead of them, and whilst they might appeal to different kinds of rap fans, it's interesting to hear the prodigal pair get on a record together.

"All The Time" is the record, and it's available as a free download, courtesy of former Cool Kids producer Chuck Inglish, who laced the track with his magic touch. Apparently it comes from a collection of tracks made when the duo linked up to work on Mac's sophomore album, and came from sessions spent by the pool, under the sun. It's certainly got that vibe to it, with Solo providing some vocals that sound almost like an imitation of vintage singsong 3-Stacks and Mac sounding super-chilled throughout.

Relax to that leisurely sound below and download the track here:

Angel Haze - "On The Edge" (Azealia Banks Diss) | New Music

artworks-000037507866-7su43d-t500x500

I've always been a firm believer that hip hop needs more dope female emcees, and it irks me when people forget the relative lack of women's voices and herald someone as "the next big femcee"- as if you can only have one rapper represent the fairer sex.

Anyway, if you were one of those fans casting your vote for the most captivating female emcee of the moment, I'm sure Angel Haze and Azealia Banks would both be somewhere on your ballot paper, and apparently there's isn't room for both of their powerful personalities to peacefully co-exist, as their rivalry has turned into open hostility. It's Haze who fires the first shot, challenging Banks to answer back with laughter, Biggie vocal samples and a Diplo-style beat.
