Will Smith‘s The Redemption of Cain has finally been given the go-ahead by Sony Pictures Entertainment, green-lighting the project for the big screen.

The Redemption of Cain tells the Biblical tale of Cain and Abel, providing a unique twist with the inclusion of vampires. With a script co-written by Dan Knauf and Caleb Pinkett, younger brother of Jada Pinkett Smith, the film’s script is reportedly being worked over by World Trade Center writer Andrea Berloff.

Initially titled The Legend of Cain, the prospective picture will mark Will Smith’s directorial debut, the Men In Black star adding film-making to an already impressive CV. The Fresh Prince’s very own Overbrook Entertainment is also expected to be heavily involved with the production of the upcoming project.

Smith and co are reported to begin casting for the film this month, and is expected to start production in July 2013. Shooting has been scheduled in locations such as Jordan, Morocco and London.
